JMG is distributing 150 refurbished laptops and 50 refurbished Chromebooks to students, according to a news release from statewide education nonprofit.
The devices are being dispersed to 200 high school and college students throughout Maine, in all 16 counties.
“Access to personal computers is a consistent challenge for our students. With new opportunities for students to participate in innovative, online learning experiences both inside and outside of the classroom, these laptops will deliver on our promise to remove barriers and ensure equitable solutions,” said Craig Larrabee, president and CEO of JMG.
The contribution is part of AT&T’s company-wide commitment to help bridge the digital divide and invest in connectivity and technology, digital literacy, and education solutions.
“We know students need to have access to technology to reach their fullest potential,” said Owen Smith, AT&T president of Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont. “We are proud to support JMG in advancing competency-based and career exploration opportunities, helping to build the emerging workforce for Maine.”
Each device donated to JMG includes a one-year warranty, technical support, and access to digital inclusion programs, including low-cost internet sign-up assistance and digital literacy training. The devices are pre-installed with Microsoft Office, Microsoft Office 365 or Google Suite.
The devices are made possible through the AT&T Connected Learning program, and its collaboration with Human-I-T.
